See what our past guests have said about their stay with us in their accommodation testimonials below.

We have been visiting Pinetrees regularly since 1987 with our children who are now adults and teenagers and who even change their travel plans to make sure they can join us. It is a unique experience which we value, a quintessential Australian beach family holiday but without the crowds and the mobile phones. Only two hours from Sydney is an island of breathtaking beauty and Pinetrees is the guesthouse with timeless ambience on the edge of the lagoon. We cycle, walk and swim, have barbecues on the beach and share with our fellow Pinetrees guests as relaxed an atmosphere as we can imagine anywhere. The boatshed is a favourite place and sunset drinks there are now an essential element of the Pinetrees camaraderie.

Our first trip to Lord Howe was in 1993 and since then the family has returned every year. We have always agreed that if one were asked to design an island from scratch it would be very hard to improve on Lord Howe with its superb combination of beaches, coral reefs, rainforest and mountain walks, and marine and bird life — all within a two hour flight from Sydney! Just as vital to our enjoyment of Lord Howe is Pinetrees, where we have always stayed. It continues to provide us with the perfect combination of comfort, relaxation, good food, and friendliness which remains such an important reason for drawing us back to Lord Howe each year.

There is nowhere in the world like Lord Howe Island – incredibly beautiful, with uncrowded beaches, mountains, natural wilderness, kilometres of walks and spectacular marine life. It is amazingly relaxed and unspoilt – where else in the world is there no need for anyone to lock their doors? – and there is so much to do that kids don't need to spend their day with their heads buried in screens. We come back to Pinetrees every year for the friendliness of the place and its unique atmosphere, run by the same welcoming family for over 100 years. Staying at Pinetrees is somehow like staying with friends.

Our family first stayed at Pinetrees in December 2002 and we have returned every year since. Our son makes the trip back from England to join us there. Why do we keep returning? The island is stunningly beautiful, uncrowded, friendly and peaceful. It offers as little or as much physical activity as anyone could ask for, including walking, cycling, swimming, snorkelling, diving and fishing . Pinetrees is wonderfully relaxing and welcoming. We love the way whole families all holiday together at Pinetrees year after year.

Pinetrees stands out for its simplicity, timelessness and family-friendliness. The inclusiveness of meals, the laid-back architecture and layout are unique. No mobiles, no WiFi, no TV, no swimming pool etc are essential in making this a real break and unique.

Ben and Melissa, Narrabeen, NSW

The highlight is the friendly nature of Pinetrees and the management and staff that make this place and the island the very special place that it is. Our family, of all differing ages, are all very happy here. There is something for everyone and that we can come together at mealtimes makes it very special family time – something that happens very seldom in this day and age.

Our family has been visiting Pinetrees for some 20 years and we now bring 3 generations to this beautiful destination. Our family live in all corners of the globe and travel huge distances to be with us for 10 days in paradise. Pinetrees (and the island generally) has something for everybody. Our ages range from 5 years to 66 years and the old ones have as much fun as the young. The atmosphere at Pinetrees is also an enormous enhancement to the beauty of the island itself. Very casual, very efficient and comfortable, very friendly and, with no mobile phone access, a blessed relief from the hassles of the mainland. Everyone should visit Pinetrees at least once in their life!

Our family stayed at Pinetrees in January 2011. It was our first visit to Lord Howe Island. We had a fantastic time staying at Pinetrees. The staff were brilliant at organising anything we wanted, from picnics to fishing trips. The food was delicious and our fellow guests were all very friendly. Our two boys had the time of their lives making new friends, fishing, snorkelling, diving and riding their bikes around the very beautiful and safe island. We would definitely recommend Pinetrees and Lord Howe to all our friends.

A holiday at Pinetrees on Lord Howe Island is a holiday in Paradise. If it's the only holiday you ever have, you have had the holiday of a lifetime. The atmosphere is addictive and you can't wait to return. We can't contain our excitement once we're on the plane for our return visit to Paradise. With great anticipation, we know what a wonderful time we're going to experience, and how we're going to be spoilt at Pinetrees.

Everything was perfect. Riding bikes to perfect beaches, swimming in warm clear water, snorkelling on the reef, sunset drinks at the boatshed, the most glorious meals!!, smiling people and lovely, warm staff, feeding those huge fish at Neds Beach. We don't want to go home!!

Thank you so much for the unique experience of staying at Pinetrees. The full-board concept captures the old-style guesthouse and you have successfully brought that into the modern era while accommodating all ages. I would also like to commend the entire staff who all appear to be happy in their work and added a friendly touch to our stay. After one day, it felt like we were regular visitors. I sincerely hope that may be the case in future.

As always, the highlight is the whole Pinetrees / LHI experience: flying into this magnificent island, the usual welcome at the airport and back to Pinetrees, getting the bikes, the freedom to explore, the magnificent meals, snorkelling, turtles, Blinky, Transit Hill, Goat House, Rocky Run, North Bay in a glass bottom boat, Old Gulch, the Herring Pools, Mt Eliza, Malabar, Neds Beach, Clear Place, the feeling of safety, warmth and freedom, the wonderful family history associated with Pinetrees that makes you feel like you are part of the extended family.

Jill, Clontarf, NSW

I loved everything – the food, the service, the rooms, the snorkelling...

Leo (aged 8, nearly 9), Clovelly, NSW

For total relaxation, a beautiful environment, a total learning experience related to the ecology and fabulous dining experiences.

Margrethe, Cherrybrook, NSW

Pinetrees offers a great relaxing and enjoyable venue with great comfort, friendly and willing staff, and not having to cook is a great bonus. The food was fantastic in fact. Even after busy days of cycling, walking, snorkelling etc, we still wacked on a few pounds. Loved how compact the island is and how many wonderful outlooks and vistas there are around every corner. Loved how the locals all waved as we trundled around their gorgeous island home, making us feel welcome. The well placed BBQs were fantastic for picnic lunches and social gatherings. Plenty to do, plenty to see and lots of time to enjoy. Leave your mobile at home – it's one of the few places anywhere you can't be contacted.

We would highly recommend Pinetrees and Lord Howe Island as a venue full of experiences. To enjoy the lodge's central location is a bonus. Be prepared to relax, but also be kept hopping with gorgeous beaches to explore, challenging or meandering hikes to be had, great fishing, snorkelling and wonderful locals. An awe inspiring place.

Mark and Rose, Byron Bay, NSW

Accommodation and service is excellent. Food is great and there's plenty of it. Staff are friendly and full of helpful advice. There's plenty to do on the island. Above all, Pinetrees is centrally located to all places of interest, if not a short bike ride away.

Neil, Penshurst, NSW

Our family has visited Lord Howe Island for over 10 years and we love everything it has to offer. From world class snorkelling and scuba diving to climbing mountains, bird watching and jumping off the wharf with locals and old friends, there's plenty to do for all age groups. It is so refreshing to see how much fun can be had away from "Facebook" and mobile phones. Pinetress is a very special place for us. Nothing is too much trouble for the friendly staff from giving tips on daily island activities to dropping barbeque or picnic packs off at various locations. The beautiful, gourmet dinners had with family and Pinetrees friends, sitting on the lovely, wide verandah have to be a highlight of our stays. We cherish these all year waiting to return again in January where our batteries will be renewed for another year.

Pip, Roseville, NSW

This has been a sensational six days. Dani and Luke, you have the centre piece of what is a jewel in the midst of a beautiful blue ocean. Thank you for your wonderful accommodation at Pinetrees. The staff have been friendly and most accommodating in their service and interaction with all your guests – looking after all the little things that make up a great holiday. Lord Howe Island is a glorious place to be, not only for its position but also for the manner in which your guests are looked after. Until next time.
