TripAdvisor's Top 25 Hotels in Australia

TripAdvisor's travellers choice award for Pinetrees on Lord Howe Island

TripAdvisor just named their Top 25 Hotels in Australia for 2016, and Pinetrees was on the list. We’re still a bit stunned. Other NSW hotels in the Top 25 include Emirates Wolgan Valley, Park Hyatt, and Pullman Grand Quay (aka the Toaster), so we’re mixing it with some serious places. While they have an edge on us with pillow menus, lap pools, 24 hour room service and on-demand movies, we have the Lord Howe Island Lagoon, an organic garden and a beautiful cookbook. We’ve never asked guests for TripAdvisor reviews, but maybe we should, to see how high up the list a small family-run lodge on Lord Howe Island can get. It would certainly shake up the 5 star international hotels.

Along with the Top 25 listing, we also won a prestigious TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award. It’s funny, we used to look at hotels with the Traveller’s Choice symbol and wonder what they did differently to us. It turns out – probably not much.

A very sincere ‘thank you’ to all of our guests who have written TripAdvisor reviews in the last 12 months! It will definitely boost bookings and help us pay our particularly large mortgage.

Pinetrees and Lord Howe Island are quite special in the way it subtly seduces you to adjust your pace to “Island time”. Look at those magnificent sunsets, marvel at the wildlife and just “be”. This experience will stay with me a long time until I hopefully return sometime soon!

Where in the world can you experience the rugged beauty of an Island and yet not notice all the other tourists? Nowhere. Lord Howe Island is pristine with a kick-back attitude that can’t be replicated. The ideal place to get marooned.

The hospitality and care everyone took to make sure we were looked after. The food was the highlight of our stay – you don’t expect to get 5 star meals on a faraway little island but each day was a wait of anticipation as to what we were going to eat next!

Lord Howe Island is great for all ages with access to so many different activities catering for a range of capabilities and interests. The best part is you can find places of complete solitude yet within minutes be mixing with any number of fellow travellers. All of the islanders we met have been helpful and courteous without us ever feeling as though we were being “tourists”. Finally the thing that rounded out our holiday so completely was the Pinetrees experience which was so positively unique in every facet. Thank you so much!

Kayaking on the lagoon on Lord Howe Island, BBQ’s at Ned’s Beach are most memorable. From the moment Pinetrees Lodge picked us up at the airport we were warmly welcomed.

The understated laid back charm of Pinetrees Lodge and sense of history was great. The staff were always friendly and helpful and the food great. Lord Howe Island has natural beauty at every turn and a feeling of safety, honesty and respect for natural habitat.

I would most definitely recommend Pinetrees Lodge to anyone coming to Lord Howe Island. The food was excellent, atmosphere friendly and caring and the position fantastic. I enjoyed reading the family and local history and it’s a pleasure to know Pinetrees is still being run by original family members (very special). The Island itself is stunning and we did not miss a sunset at the boatshed.
