June Newsletter

Greetings from Pinetrees!

Our renovations have started and the changes look great already – you just have to blur your eyes and use some imagination. We thought we'd have some quiet time over winter, but alas, we're as busy as ever. With a host like Dani, our builders have never been so pampered and well fed.

Hope to see you soon!

Best Job in Australia

We need someone for the Best Job in Australia. It includes a $9000 reward and all expenses paid. You’ll get to live on Lord Howe Island, do every activity and film your experience. It could be the best two months of your life. Interested? Can you please share the details with any likely contenders. Click here for more details.

In the Media

Did you see Escape in the Sunday Telegraph yesterday? We had the best feature article in years by writer Ceridwen Dovey. Mostly, we know when journalists are staying and make sure they have a good time, but Ceridwen and her partner were normal guests on a Pinetrees holiday. See what you think of her article.

Our sale has just been extended for another week with up to 30% discounts on airfares, accommodation, meals and spa treatments. You can also enjoy free activities if you stay during one of our Cooking or Wellness weeks. Pay an additional $300 per person and join our Wilderness Challenge Week in August, which includes guided kayak, boat and walking adventures to the island's most spectacular places. The sale is available for travel between 25 May - 14 June 2014 or 10 August - 10 September 2014 (inclusive), for new bookings only. Be quick – sale ends on 2 June! Click here for more details.

Our secret is out. We close in three weeks (for the first time in decades) to start our long overdue renovations. We’re replacing carpets, paint, curtains, bathrooms, light fittings, furniture, windows and doors, and adding lovely blackbutt boardwalks and decks. We’re also adding new gardens. We’ve been working with architects and designers to ensure we keep our simplicity and charm for another generation. Don’t worry – we can preserve the Pinetrees experience without the mission brown tiles and mink laminate. Stay tuned for progress photos on Facebook.

Weekend Sunrise

Did you see Weekend Sunrise last week? James Tobin and the crew stayed at Pinetrees and filmed with us for 4 days, including 12 live crosses over the weekend (and an interview with Dani). It was frantic. Each cross came from a different location. We got them as far as the base of Mt Gower by boat, and along the Lower Road by foot (that’s a challenge with 20kg of camera gear). A big thanks to Aaron and Lisa at Prodive, Dave and Glenys at Greenback, and Dean and Ken at Lord Howe Environmental Tours – days of work go into a few minutes of TV. Here’s a sample of the coverage.

Cooking with Steve Snow

Steve Snow is one of Australia's best chefs and, from 6-10 October 2014, will teach cooking master classes at Pinetrees. Steve has worked at the forefront of Australian fine dining after transforming a deserted restaurant in Brunswick Heads into the famous Two Hat restaurant, Fins. He later moved to Byron Bay where he won ‘Best Seafood Restaurant in Australia’ and ‘Best Regional Restaurant’. Join Steve at Pinetrees for a week of fine dining, cooking classes and wine tastings.
