Feature article in The Australian

The Australian cover with Lord Howe IslandPinetrees has just has a full page article in the Travel & Indulgence section of the Weekend Australian. The journalist, Fiona Harari, is a serious writer and normally works on news features, so it was great to see her relax into some leisurely travel writing. Fiona was the Freelance Journalist of the Year at the 2013 Walkley Awards, and was one of the producers on Enough Rope with Andrew Denton. In our experience, the serious journos have trouble writing travel pieces and usually go looking for a ‘story’ – and on Lord Howe, stories are few and far between. Luckily, Fiona applied her keen sense for a story to the intricacies of a Lord Howe holiday and saw the Lagoon at its pristine best, climbed Malabar, Kims and Intermediate Hill, did a few yoga classes with Charlotte Dodson, cooked a BBQ at Neds, and most importantly, had multiple cups of tea with Dani.

We’ve been trying for nearly 5 years to get the Weekend Australian back to Lord Howe, but apart from a lovely review of our Lord Howe Island Cookbook earlier in 2016, we hadn’t had much success. It was worth the wait. This is our second visit to Pinetrees Lodge; it has the best service and location. Lord Howe Island has something for everyone from high end action like climbing Mt Gower to the very sedentary. We will be back.

Our stay at Pinetrees Lodge was wonderful in every way. The staff was always smiling, happy, and helpful. Heaven on Earth!
