food and wine weeks

We are serious about food and wine, and have always provided recipes, advice on cooking techniques and wine tastings to enthusiastic 'foodie' guests. Sometimes this doesn't satisfy the need to cook, eat and drink, so from 15-19 May 2017 and 23-27 October 2017, we'll host Food and Wine Weeks. In 2018 we'll be hosting Food and Wine Weeks from 21-25 May 2018 and 22-26 October 2018.

During our Food and Wine Weeks, our Executive Chef Alasdair Nicolson (see his amazing recipes in the Lord Howe Island Cookbook), or visiting celebrity chef, will host a 2 hour cooking master class every day. He'll cover a range of topics and reveal some professional secrets to help you take your home cooking to a new level. Why watch Jamie Oliver, Rick Stein or Nigella Lawson, when you can experience similar demonstrations live? The best part, though, is that you get to taste everything he prepares, which can be up to 20 exceptional dishes over 5 days.

In the evening, we'll convene on the waterfront deck or cozy library for selected wine tastings. Each day we'll taste a range of James Halliday's favourite wines and explore variations in style and character from different Australian wine regions. Read the review of our inaugural Food and Wine Week with Warren Farrugia. You should also read the feature article in the Sydney Morning Herald about our week with Peter Kuruvita in 2013, and watch the video of our Food and Wine Week by film-maker Andy Lloyd.

Our Food and Wine Weeks include:

  • 2 hour cooking master classes every afternoon

  • wine tastings every evening

  • 6 nights' accommodation
  • full breakfasts

  • lunches (either at Pinetrees, gourmet BBQ hamper or packed lunch)

  • afternoon teas

  • 4 or 5 course dinners

  • use of all lodge facilities

  • island airport transfers

Prices start from $2,427.00 (per person twin share in a Palm Room), excluding airfares. In other words, cooking classes and wine tastings are FREE for Pinetrees guests. To enjoy the full week you're best to arrive the weekend prior and plan to depart no earlier than the following Saturday. Please contact us for further details or to make a booking.

Currency

All rates are in Australian Dollars (AUD) and include GST.

Longer stays

Stays longer than 5 nights attract additional discounts off the rack rate.

Inclusions

Our 5 night 'all inclusive' rate includes island airport transfers, use of lodge facilities and all meals - full breakfast, lunch (either at Pinetrees, gourmet BBQ hamper or packed lunch), afternoon tea and 4 or 5 course dinner. The 5 night 'all inclusive' rate excludes drinks, airfares and other applicable levies and taxes. Our 5 night 'bed & breakfast' rate includes island airport transfers, use of lodge facilities, full breakfast, afternoon tea, 4 or 5 course dinner on the night of arrival and evening transport to local restaurants. The 5 night 'bed & breakfast' rate excludes drinks, airfares and other applicable levies and taxes.

Bed & Breakfast rate

There are no cooking or self catering facilities at Pinetrees, so all 'bed and breakfast' guests should have lunch and dinner at local cafes and restaurants. 'Bed and breakfast' guests are welcome to book for lunch or dinner at Pinetrees by 9am on the day, although seats are not guaranteed due to high demand. The 'bed and breakfast' rate is not available for our 3 Bedroom Cottage, 4 Bedroom Cottage or Garden Cottages. The 'bed and breakfast' rate is not available for any rooms from 19 December to 20 January (inclusive). All guests in each room must book the same rate (i.e all guests must be on an ''all inclusive' rate or 'bed & breakfast' rate). Pinetrees will not accept bookings with mixed rates within one room.

Airfares

Pinetrees Travel provides the best available airfares to Lord Howe Island. Qantaslink is the only airline to service Lord Howe Island and has connections from 750 global destinations as part of the One World Alliance. International travellers can sometimes include flights to and from Lord Howe in tickets to Australia. Please check with your travel agent. You can then use our accommodation rates for land content only.

Travel insurance

Flights to Lord Howe Island are sometimes cancelled due to weather. It is important that you purchase travel insurance that covers the cost of additional accommodation, or lost accommodation, due to 'weather' cancellations.

Check-in & check-out

Check-in time is 3pm and check-out time is 10am. Early check-ins and late check-outs are sometimes available. Please check with Pinetrees staff on the day.
