ocean swimming with Trevor Hendy
Imagine doing an ocean swim in pristine subtropical waters over 90 species of coral and 500 species of fish? Imagine having the chance to swim every day for a week? Imagine sharing the experience with 15 ocean swimmers, including Australia’s most famous Ironman, Trevor Hendy?
If you’re sick of that black line or the opaque water at suburban beaches, then please join our Lord Howe Island Ocean Swim Weeks from 30 January - 3 February 2017, 6-10 February 2017, 13-17 February 2017, 20-24 February 2017 and 20-24 November 2017. Each day, we’ll swim 1.5 – 2km around the Lord Howe Island coastline and experience the beauty of a World Heritage marine environment. Some days we’ll swim over vibrant coral on the outer reef of the lagoon, while other days we’ll swim under 200 vertical metre cliffs or along some of the most perfect beaches in the world. You’ll see reef sharks, turtles, big schools of fish and thousands of seabirds.
At your side will be the former World and Australian Ironman Champion, Trevor Hendy. Trevor was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1996 for his services to surf lifesaving, and was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2000. Along the way, he won medals at the World Championships in kayaking and won the Uncle Toby’s Super Series four times. Trevor now works as a high performance coach for elite athletes and guides people from all walks of life through his Bootcamp for the Soul. During the Ocean Swim Weeks, Trevor will provide tips on technique, training and motivation, and share some experiences and insights from the world of elite sport. For a taste of the experience, please watch the short video of our inaugural Ocean Swim Week by film-maker Andy Lloyd, and read the review by Louise Southerden in the Sydney Morning Herald. As much as Trev would like to move to Lord Howe for the entire month of February 2017, he's needed elsewhere, so in his place he's sending Phil Clayton (former World Ironman Champion) and Ali Day (2014 Australian Surf Lifesaving Series Ironman Champion) to host 2 of the weeks (dates to be confirmed).
When you’re not swimming, there will be plenty of time to enjoy the other activities that Lord Howe has to offer – surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing, snorkelling, diving and walking, just to name a few. And they’re all world class. In the evening, you can relax with a sunset drink on our waterfront deck and enjoy a 4 course dinner with a lovely glass of wine. Sound like the right combination of exercise, relaxation and indulgence? Did we mention our day spa?
