One benefit of a healthy marine ecosystem, protected breeding grounds and remote location is the immense number of fish in the waters around Lord Howe.
With the right fishing gear, some local knowledge and persistence, you can catch kingfish, yellowfin tuna, wahoo and a range of other big species from the shore. The most reliable fishing, though, is from one of our local charter boats. Fishing trips go to the Admiralty Islands, South West Bank, Balls Pyramid and a number of non-disclosed locations on most days. Experienced and devoted fisherman are regularly ‘fished out’.
Lagoon fishing for garfish, bluefish, trevally, kingfish and double headers is a fun activity for all ages, and provides excellent sport fishing and fly fishing. It wouldn’t be a real Lord Howe holiday without a BBQ garfish sandwich at Cobbys Corner. Read the Locals’ Guide to Lord Howe Island to learn more about our best fishing spots.
